First Post - Sampling Question

First off, I've been reading The BeatTips Manual. I'm flying through it and really appreciate the history of it. I will definitely move on to The Art of Sampling. I'm working with a Maschine Studio and am slowly learning when I can find time. If I would've had the Maschine when I was younger with no responsibilities or a care in the world, you'd probably never see me!

Maybe there's a simple explanation for my question - why would you sample particular drum sounds as opposed to just using some drums and effects from the kits provided in Maschine? I'm guessing it's as simple as, if you like the sound then sample it?
